Midtown holds the city’s biggest concentration of grand rooms: former bank halls turned ballrooms, a 65th-floor landmark above Rockefeller Center, theaters around Times Square, and big venues on the Hudson from the Intrepid to The Glasshouse.
For corporate events the draw is the commute. Most guests can walk from the office or take one train, and Grand Central, Penn Station and Port Authority are all here for anyone coming in from outside the city.
The trade-off is control. Most of these rooms have exclusive caterers and AV partners, so the space estimate is usually a food and drink minimum rather than a rental fee. Rooftop lounges and cocktail rooms such as The Skylark and The Campbell are the smaller, easier options.
A ballroom that holds 1,000 standing may seat 500 at rounds with a stage. Start from the seated dinner or theater number, then check the reception space.
Most ballrooms and theaters here bring their own caterer and AV. That sets your real cost, so ask what is included before you compare minimums.
Evening load-ins and arrivals near Times Square compete with theater crowds. Give vendors and guests extra time.

Rooms with a stage and theater seating: Manhattan Center, Palladium Times Square, the theater and conference center near Times Square, and Sony Hall for smaller programs.
At a few rooms. Most ballrooms, theaters and restaurants here require their own. For more flexibility, look at the NoMad lofts nearby.
