A full restaurant buyout where the chandelier hall and lower-level rooms already look like a set, which suits a big December party that needs no decor budget.
Buddakan is a Starr Restaurants dining room inside the Chelsea Market building on Ninth Avenue. Christian Liaigre designed the 16,000 sq ft interior, which mixes gilded French detail with Asian art. The best-known room is a long hall with a communal table under rows of candle chandeliers, and a lower level adds darker, clubbier rooms.
For a full buyout the restaurant holds about 800 standing or 300 seated, with a minimum of about 225 guests for the whole space. Nine private spaces can also be booked on their own, from small alcoves to large rooms. The kitchen serves the house pan-Asian menu family style, which keeps service moving at scale.
