A paneled Upper East Side townhouse that still works as the headquarters of a famous exploration society, so the room comes with real expedition flags, trophies and history on the walls.
The Explorers Club has its headquarters in a Jacobean-style townhouse on East 70th Street, built for the Clark family. The main event room, the Clark Room, has mahogany linenfold paneling, a decorative plaster ceiling and a carved fireplace by the sculptor George Gray Barnard. Club flags carried on expeditions hang on the walls, and the Library next door has a coffered ceiling and stained glass windows.
The second floor joins the Clark Room, the Library and an outdoor terrace, and holds up to 175 standing, 100 seated or 130 theater style. The Clark Room alone measures 37 ft by 24 ft. Smaller spaces include a Members' Lounge for 50 standing and the Roosevelt Room for 14 seated. The club has no in-house kitchen, so food comes from its list of approved caterers.

The Clark Room seats 100 around a carved fireplace.
